In addition to organizations and groups that are dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the arts, there is never a shortage of exhibits and shows for art lovers to choose from in Moore County.

Organizations

Artists League of the Sandhills

The Artists League of the Sandhills is a ­nonprofit organization located in historic downtown Aberdeen. The League ­provides ongoing classes in a variety of media. Children’s classes also are offered.

In addition, the League offers three-day and weeklong workshops featuring nationally known artists and teachers.

Located in an old storage terminal of the Aberdeen Rockfish Railroad at 129 Exchange St. in historic Aberdeen, the Artists League of the Sandhills’ facility houses 45 artists-in-­residence studios, a gallery, two large ­classrooms and a thriving membership of more than 200.

Arts Council of Moore County 

The Arts Council of Moore County (ACMC) is a not-for-profit organization celebrating more than 30 years of promoting awareness and appreciation of the arts in Moore County. ACMC offers a wide variety of programs in the performing, visual and literary arts to all Moore County citizens.

The ACMC offices are located in the Campbell House at 482 E. Connecticut Ave., Southern Pines. Office hours are Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and every third weekend of the month, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Art at The Market Place

Enjoy the fine art gallery at Art at The Market Place which features the original paintings of local artists Cele Bryant, Betty DiBartolomeo, Fay Terry and Joan Williams. Located at 2160 Midland Rd., Pinehurst, Art at The Market Place is open Monday-Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stop in on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and meet the artists at work.

Artist Alley

Artist Alley features artwork and fine crafts made exclusively in North Carolina. Located a block from the railroad depot at 167 E. New Hampshire Ave., Southern Pines, Artist Alley is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday with a First Friday opening each month. Artists League of the Sandhills

The Artists League of the Sandhills offers gallery showings with changing exhibits. The League’s Exchange Street Gallery is located at 129 Exchange St. in historic Aberdeen. Exhibits are open to the ­public Monday through Saturday from 12 until 3 p.m. Call (910) 944-3979 for information.

Broadhurst Gallery

Located at 2212 Midland Rd., Pinehurst, Broadhurst Gallery showcases works by ­nationally recognized artists. Hours are Tuesday-Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. For more information, call (910) 295-4817 or visit www.broadhurstgallery. com.

Campbell House Galleries

The Campbell House Galleries, 482 East Connecticut Avenue in Southern Pines, is the home gallery of the Arts Council of Moore County. It provides three spacious exhibit areas and offers paintings and pottery for sale by local artists.

Central Security Systems Gallery

Located in the new CSI building at 370 NW Broad St., Southern Pines, Central Security Systems Gallery features early works by Joanne Gil Worth from her private collection. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more ­information, call (910) 215-0755. 

Gap Creek Candle Company

Gap Creek Candle Company, 116 NW Broad St., Southern Pines, showcases the arts and crafts of the Sandhills, King’s Pottery and Crystal King Pottery of Seagrove, local ­pineneedle basketry and birdhouses, original paintings and prints by Jeanette Sheehan of Pinehurst, and Gap Creek’s scented candles. Hastings Gallery

Hastings Gallery hosts work by local artists throughout the year. Located in Boyd Library on the campus of Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst, Hastings Gallery’s fall and spring hours are 7:45 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Summer hours are 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 1:30  p.m. Saturday. Hollyhocks Art Gallery

Hollyhocks Art Gallery, located in The Shops At Pinehurst Place, at 905 Linden Road, Pinehurst, next to Elliott’s on Linden, features original artwork by local artists Irene McFarland, Diane Kraudelt, Bob Gera, Paula Montgomery and artist/owner Jane Casnellie. Jewels of Pinehurst

Jewels of Pinehurst is a gallery of ­fine, handcrafted jewelry designed and crafted by graduate gemologist Patricia Reid. The gallery also features Hearts on Fire diamonds. Joy of Art Studio

Joy of Art Studio is a fun, creative art space offering classes for children and adults.  Classes available include painting and drawing skills, mixed media, ­collage techniques, history and science through art, portrait drawing and painting, fiber art, glass fusing, sculpture, doll making and more. North Carolina Pottery Center

Opened in 1998 at 233 East Ave., Seagrove, the N.C. Pottery Center’s permanent exhibits trace the history and development of the state’s pottery traditions from the ­prehistoric Native Americans to the present.
