Fresh Produce Abundant at Farms, Roadside Markets

Many produce stands, farms and farmers’ markets offer Moore County residents and ­visitors an opportunity for fresh fruits and ­vegetables.

  • Auman Orchard, 3140 N.C. Hwy. 73, West End, is best known for peaches. However, the diverse farming operation also produces timber, pine needles, cattle and poultry, as well as peaches and other fruits. For information, call (910) 673-4391.
  • Betty’s Garden, located in downtown Southern Pines on Pennsylvania Avenue, carries strawberries and other  produce. Betty’s Garden is open seasonally, beginning May 1, with 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. hours Tuesday through Saturday.
  • Carter Farms, located on 673 Eagle Springs Road 1/2 mile from N.C. 211 in Eagle Springs, has strawberries April through June and sweet potatoes August through November. Call (910) 673-7730 or (910) 673-2666 for hours and availability April 15 through June 1.
  • Denny Strawberry Farm, 1012 Lamms Grove Road, Carthage. For ­information, call (910) 947-2823.
  • Doby Tree Farm, 150 Doby Road, Cameron, offers choose-and-cut Christmas trees beginning the Friday after Thanksgiving through December 24. Hours of operation are Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call (910) 245-3265 for information.
  • Ferguson Farm, 150 U.S. 1 Business, Cameron, offers apples, blackberries, ­blueberries and peaches. Plums are available June through September and figs July through September. Ferguson Farm fruit is available on Mondays from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Moore County Farmers Market, located in the parking lot of FirstHealth Fitness Center, Pinehurst, on Saturday mornings at the new Southern Pines Farmers Market and at the farmers market in Carrboro.   • Frank’s Strawberries, Sweet Corn and Vegetable Barn, 444 Bryant Road, Carthage, offers beans, cabbage, corn, ­potatoes, squash, strawberries, tomatoes and vegetables.   • Moore County Farmers’ Market, Morganton Road sports complex lot, Southern Pines, offers in-season, locally grown fresh fruits and produce. The market is open on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., April through October.
  • Preferred Stock Blueberries, 1460 Red Hill Rd., Cameron, offers pick-your-own or they will pick blueberries for you from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays, July through August. For ­information or other times, call (910) 949-3451.
  • Pressley Farms “Berry Patch,” 394 Bryant Road, Carthage, offers a roadside ­market, picnic facilities, a corn maze, hay rides, tours and pick-your-own produce, including cantaloupe, corn, onions, pumpkins, ­strawberries, vegetables and watermelons.   • Ring’s Strawberry Farm, located at 937 Airport Road, Lakeview, offers a roadside market and pick-your-own strawberries and vegetables. Beginning in late April through the end of the season, the farm is open from 7:30 a.m. to noon. Call (910) 949-2657 for days of operation.
