For those in need, a number of support groups are available in the Sandhills.

A Course in Miracles, a spiritual self-development course self-study group where like minds come together to inspire each other for personal growth in daily life, meets on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Pinebrook Apartments, 325 S.W. Service Road, near Lob Steer. Call 692-1812 for information.

The Alzheimer’s Support Group in Aberdeen meets at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at the Bethesda Presbyterian Church, 1002 N. Sandhills Blvd. For more information, call (910) 944-1319. 

 

The Sandhills Monthly Alzheimer’s Support Group meets at Elmcroft Assisted Living and Alzheimer’s Care, 101 Brucewood Rd., Southern Pines, on the second Wednesday of each month at noon. Creative Connection has formed an Artist’s Way Group. The group, which offers a ­spiritual path to higher creativity, meets Friday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon at the Joy of Art Studio. Using a ­workbook by Julia Cameron and its ­various assignments, such as ­journaling and other tools and ­techniques, the artists explore their artistic nature and reinforce their creativity. Compassionate Friends of the Sandhills, a grief support group for parents and families who have ­experienced the death of a child, meets the third Monday of the month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church, Pinehurst. Hopeful Hearts Chronic Illness support group meets the first and third Saturdays of every month at New Covenant Fellowship on Pinehurst Avenue. The meetings start at 4 p.m.

 

Whether you are breastfeeding your baby six days, six weeks or six months, you’ll find La Leche League meetings supportive and ­informational. La Leche League of Star meets the fourth Thursday of the month at 10:30 a.m. in the  Star Municipal Building. Mothers with their nursing babies and ­mothers-to-be are welcome. Mothers of Moore, a support group for women with children 5 years old and younger, holds meetings for moms and weekly ­playgroups for children on the second Tuesday of the month from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Southern Pines United Methodist Church. Sandhills Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) is a ­program for mothers of children ages birth to 5 years. National Alliance on Mentally Illness (NAMI) of Moore County holds support meetings at 7 p.m. on most first Mondays, except August, in Room A of FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital Conference Room, at the corner of Page Road and N.C. 211. The group recommends calling in advance (910) 295-1053.

Panic Relief Inc., a registered nonprofit educational corporation, offers a panic attack and anxiety program at 7 p.m. on alternate Monday and Wednesday evenings. People throughout the USA ­participate in the ­programs via a teleconference call. Participants learn how to manage and control panic attacks, anxiety and stress.
